EarlyON Centres in Toronto: A Parent's Guide to Free Drop-In Programs
EarlyON Child and Family Centres are free drop-in programs for children from birth to six years old and their caregivers, funded by the Government of Ontario and run by community organizations across Toronto. No registration, no fees, no postal-code restrictions — you can walk into any centre in the city during its program hours. They are the single largest source of free children's programming in Toronto, and the largest category on this site's daily tracker.
This week (2026-06-11 to 2026-06-18): 399 EarlyON drop-in sessions at 207 centres across Toronto are on the tracker.

What is an EarlyON centre?
EarlyON centres offer caregiver-and-child programming: you stay and participate with your child rather than dropping them off. Programs are staffed by qualified early childhood professionals who can also connect families with community resources — feeding support, developmental screening, child care information, and parenting workshops. The City of Toronto maintains the official centre directory and map.
Who can go?
Any caregiver with a child aged 0–6: parents, grandparents, nannies, and other caregivers are all welcome. You can visit any centre citywide regardless of where you live — there is no catchment. Many families rotate between two or three nearby centres to vary the toys, rooms, and circle-time styles.
What happens during a drop-in session?
A typical session starts with open-ended free play — sensory bins, blocks, dress-up, a baby area — and ends with a group activity such as circle time, songs, or a story. There is no pressure to participate in everything; the rhythm is intentionally relaxed so babies can nap, toddlers can wander, and caregivers can talk to other adults. Sessions in our database most commonly run on weekday mornings, with many centres opening between 8:45 and 9:30 AM.
Your first visit: what to expect
- No pre-registration at most centres. Show up during program hours and sign in at the door — typically just your first names and your child's age.
- Bring indoor socks for both you and your child; outdoor shoes usually stay at the entrance.
- Pack light: water, a small snack, and a change of clothes covers nearly every situation. Most centres are stroller-friendly with space to park, and have spots for feeding and diaper changes.
- Arrive early for baby-focused sessions at popular centres — the quieter infant areas fill first.
How EarlyON differs from licensed child care
EarlyON is not daycare. The caregiver stays for the whole session, there are no fees and no enrolment, and you can attend as often or as rarely as you like. If you are looking for licensed child care instead, the City's child care directory is the right tool — and our companion site HomeTurf compares licensed-childcare availability across all 158 Toronto neighbourhoods.
Finding today's sessions
The Toronto Kids Events tracker aggregates EarlyON schedules daily alongside library storytimes and Parks & Recreation drop-ins. Filter by the Babies (0–2) or Toddlers (3–5) age group, or tap Near Me to sort by walking distance.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register for EarlyON programs?
No. Most EarlyON centres in Toronto are drop-in: arrive during program hours and sign in at the door. A small number of special workshops ask for advance sign-up, which is noted in the individual listing.
Are EarlyON centres really free?
Yes. EarlyON Child and Family Centres are funded by the Government of Ontario and are free for all families with children aged 0 to 6. There are no membership fees and no per-visit charges.
What ages are EarlyON programs for?
Children from birth to six years old, together with a parent or caregiver. Many centres run separate baby-only sessions (0–12 or 0–18 months) alongside mixed-age drop-ins.
Can I go to an EarlyON centre outside my neighbourhood?
Yes. Every EarlyON centre in Toronto welcomes all families regardless of postal code, so you can visit any centre in the city.
