Free Museum Days in Toronto for Kids: The Always-Current Guide
Toronto's major museums are free far more often than most families realize — the ROM is free one evening a month, the AGO another, the City's ten history museums are always free, and in summer 2026 kids get free admission at major institutions for eleven straight weeks. ROM: Third Tuesday Nights Free
The Royal Ontario Museum opens free of charge on the third Tuesday evening of every month, 4:00–8:30 PM. Advance tickets are required and walk-ins are not accepted, so book as soon as slots open. Remaining 2026 dates: June 16, July 21, August 18, September 15, October 20, November 17, and December 15. Evening timing suits school-age kids better than toddlers.
AGO: First Wednesday Nights
The Art Gallery of Ontario is free on the first Wednesday of each month from 6 to 9 PM. Tickets must be booked online; they are released the Monday before each session and capped at four per booking, and they go quickly. Separately, the AGO's free Annual Pass gives visitors aged 25 and under free admission year-round — which covers every kid and teen, any day the gallery is open.
Summer 2026: the Canada Strong Pass
From June 19 to September 7, 2026, the federal Canada Strong Pass program makes national museums free or reduced for young visitors. In Toronto that includes free ROM general admission for ages 4–17 and free Ontario Science Centre admission for ages 17 and under. No physical pass is needed — the discount applies at participating institutions.
Always free: Toronto History Museums
The City of Toronto's ten history museums — including Fort York National Historic Site, Spadina Museum, Mackenzie House, Colborne Lodge in High Park, Montgomery's Inn, and Scarborough Museum — offer free general admission. Several run regular family programming and PA-day activities that appear on our tracker.
Make it a habit
Free nights are popular and ticket windows are short. The reliable pattern: AGO tickets on the Monday before the first Wednesday, ROM tickets as soon as the third-Tuesday release opens, and the daily tracker for everything in between — museum free days are tagged under the Entertainment and Learning categories.
